A brief guide on how to maintain a trumpet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 trumpet
  • 1 mouthpiece
  • 1 bottle of valve oil
  • 1 duster
  • 1 bottle brush
  1. Step 1

Open the spit button and blow through the trumpet.

  2. Step 2

Close the spit button. Unscrew one and only one valve.

  3. Step 3

Spread a small amount of valve oil around the valve.

  4. Step 4

Return the valve and re screw.

  5. Step 5

Repeat steps 2-4 for the other two valves.

  6. Step 6

Use the bottle brush to clean the mouth piece.

  7. Step 7

Use the duster to remove finger marks.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do this one step at a time.
  • Oil your valves about once a week. Remove spit regularly.
  • Ensure you have automatic locking valves before attempting to oil your valves. Most good ones do.
  • Don't over oil your valves.
  • If you don't oil your valves at all, they'll stick and, eventually, seize up.
