A quick and easy fairy costume for your child that requires only basic sewing skills and your creativity!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • woman's half slip
  • sheer fabric
  • needle
  • thread
  • sewing machine
  • elastic straps
  • embellishments
  1. Step 1

Lay out your sheer fabric folded in half on your work surface. Lay the half slip on top of the fabric.

  2. Step 2

Cut your sheer fabric to size around your slip, leaving about a 1" margin on the sides and 2" margin on the top.

  3. Step 3

Cut any decorative lace or edging off of the slip. Snip a zigzag pattern on the bottom edges of both the slip and both pieces of sheer fabric.

  4. Step 4

Fold over the top edge of your sheer fabric until bottom edges of slip and fabric meet and pin together. On the right side, zizag stitch the sheer fabric directly onto the slip's elastic waistband using matching thread and pulling the slip elastic as you go to create pleating. Continue around the waistband until both pieces are completely sewn on.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add shoulder straps using ribbon or elastic as shown.
  • Trim with ribbons, trims, flowers, sequins (we also added rhinestones to ours and glitter spray)
  • Use sharp scissors to allow for clean cuts.
  • Add fairy wings and halo for the finishing touch for sale at www.partyfairystore.com
  • It's a good idea to zigzag stitch or serge sheer fabric sides together to prevent fraying.
  • Use Fray Check or another product on any raw edges of the sheer fabric.
  • Remember to pull the elastic waistband on the slip as you sew to gather material.
