How to Connect the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD Player to 5.1 Channel Surround Amplifier

A 5.1 channel surround sound splits the audio into a left and right signal, a center signal, and low-end subwoofer signal. When you connect the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player to a 5.1 channel surround amplifier, you can experience theater quality surround sound without leaving home. Follow these steps to connect the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD Player to a 5.1 channel surround amplifier.

Things You’ll Need:

  • 5.1 channel surround amplifier
  • fiber optic cable
  • sony dvp-C660 cd/dvd player
  • coaxial cable
Step1
Turn off both the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player and the 5.1 channel amplifier. Find the Dolby digital output section on the back panel of the Sony player and on the back panel of the surround sound amplifier.
Step2
Get either a coaxial cable or an optical cable with the proper end connectors. You do not need to use both types of cable at the same time.
Step3
Connect the one end of the coaxial cable to the coaxial output on the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player. When you are using a fiber optic cable, connect to the optical output instead.
Step4
Run the coaxial or fiber optic cable to the 5.1 channel surround sound amplifier. Insert the other end of the coaxial cable to the coaxial input on the amplifier. When you are using a fiber optic cable, connect to the optical input instead.
Step5
Make the video connections using S-video, component video or composite video cables.
Step6
Turn on the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player and the amplifier. Pull up the Audio Setup menu and turn on the Digital Out setting.
Step7
Turn on the Dolby Digital setting when your amplifier has a Dolby Digital decoder. Otherwise, turn it off.
Step8
Turn on the DTS if your 5.1 channel amplifier has a built in DTS decoder. Otherwise, leave it off.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that your 5.1 channel amplifier can support coaxial or optical audio connections before connecting the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player. If your amplifier does not support these types of connections, you will have to use standard RCA audio connectors.
  • Refer to the user’s manual for your surround sound amplifier for any system specific steps you may need to perform to set up your amplifier.
  • Do not make connections while the either Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player or the 5.1 channel amplifier is turned on. You risk damaging your system.
