Consider your home security needs and what you will be using the video security camera or cameras for: If you want a home security camera to watch your baby while he or she is napping, you may want audio so that you can hear that he or she has started to cry; similarly, you may want a home security camera with audio in your home office. If you want to record audio, you're going to need a microphone.

Look at different types of cameras once you have determined what you will be using your home security camera or cameras for. Keep in mind that choosing a wireless camera-in almost all cases-will be out of the question.

Consider how many of the areas that you'll be using cameras in that you want to be able to record audio; for example, you may want a camera with audio in the baby's room but not need it in the camera you have focused on your TV and stereo equipment.
