The greatest benefit of having a motion sensor on your security camera is that the camera will only function or transmit when motion is detected. If you have installed a security camera with a motion sensor, you will want to view the footage that the camera has recorded. You can sit at your TV and monitor the footage all day long, but that really isn't the sensible answer. Setting up your DVR so it will record while you are busy doing other things is the best solution.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Owner's manual
  • Motion sensor camera
  • DVR

Step1
Follow the instructions included with your security camera, as each model has different operating instructions.
Step2
Locate and download a copy of the owner's manual from the Internet if you can't locate the original. Do a search on Yahoo! or Google for your security camera’s manual.
Step3
Print the manual or save it to your computer to refer to when needed.
Step4
Attach the RCA cables from the camera to the DVR.
Step5
Make sure you have a recordable disc in your DVR and that the DVR is turned on.
Step6
Test your camera and DVR to make sure they are working properly and communicating with each other.

Tips & Warnings

  • When setting up your security camera with a motion sensor, position it so that recording won't be triggered by false alarms, such as moving tree branches.
