Parents with babies often find that a security camera to monitor their children gives them peace of mind. Parents can monitor what their children are doing and if they are safe. If you are interested in using a home security system as a baby monitor, follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the best choice of security cameras for your purpose. For instance, you may want a dome security camera if you would like to have a 360-degree view of your child's room. You may also want a night-vision camera. A battery powered camera is a good idea, too, so there are not any wires a child can harm themselves with.

  2. Step 2

Determine how many monitors you will need. Generally, parents want a monitor in their own bedroom so they will know when their children are awake as well as a monitor in another room in the house such as the kitchen so they can monitor their child during day light hours.

  3. Step 3

    Purchase your system.

  4. Step 4

Install the system. When installing the camera, be sure to take into consideration the best angle and the best height for the camera.

  5. Step 5

Sync the camera and the base station.

  6. Step 6

Install any accompanying software on your computer.

  7. Step 7

Turn on the camera and the monitor and practice using them before you actually need them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many parents install cameras in a child's playroom as well so play activity can be monitored.
