How to Add a Video Camera to a Home Security System

After you purchase a video camera as part of your home security system, you must install it in a place where it can give you maximum surveillance. Follow these steps.

Instructions

1. Decide on a room where you will be installing the camera.
   
   

2. Decide the best angle for the camera.
   
   

3. Decide how high off the floor the camera needs to be.
   
   

4. Find the mounting bracket that came with the camera.
   
   

5. Hold the mounting bracket in place with one hand and use a pencil to mark the screw holes with the other hand.
   
   

6. Determine if the screw holes will be in a stud. Use a stud finder from a home improvement store if necessary.
   
   

7. If you will not be screwing the screws into a stud, you will need to use a drywall anchor bolt
   
   

8. Use a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screw you will use to mount the bracket.
   
   

9. Predrill a hole into the stud or insert the drywall anchor bolt into the drywall.
   
   

10. Hold the mounting bracket in place and insert the screws into the predrilled holes or the drywall anchor bolt.
    
    

11. Place the camera onto the mounting bracket.
    
    

12. Plug the camera into the outlet.
    
    

13. Sync the camera to the base station following the manufacturer's directions.
    
    

14. Unpack the video camera and use the cord that came with it to attach it to the home security system.
    
    

15. Follow the manufacturer's directions for syncing the video camera to the base station.
