When trying to choose a home-security camera, most consumers do not know whether a wired or wireless model will serve them best.

  1. Step 1

    Determine where you want install your security camera.

  2. Step 2

    If you don't want to see the camera's wires, choose a wireless camera.

  3. Step 3

    If you want the camera to be mobile, choose a wireless camera.

  4. Step 4

    If you want to transmit signals through the walls and floors of your home, choose a wireless camera.

  5. Step 5

    If you want to transfer surveillance video to a VCR, computer or TV, choose a wireless camera.

  6. Step 6

    If you want to hide a camera in a small space--such as a stuffed animal, a book or a pinhole--choose a miniature, wireless camera.

  7. Step 7

    If you want to permanently monitor one location and don't need the advantage of mobility, choose a wired camera.
