Home-security cameras are increasing in popularity every year. Most consumers, however, don't know whether a color or black-and-white model will serve them best.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine where you will install your security camera.

  2. Step 2

Examine the light surrounding the installation location.

  3. Step 3

If the area is poorly lit, a black-and-white model may be your best bet.

  4. Step 4

To catch a thief, you may prefer a color system; a color system provides greater detail, and detail helps catch and prosecute intruders.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a combination of color and black-and-white security cameras at different locations in your home. Examine each location separately rather than choosing one style for the whole house.

on 10/16/2008 With the current low prices of CCTV security cameras, I really don't think anyone should get Black and white anymore, CCTV camera prices used to be really high not too long a go, but just like any other electronics the prices of color CCTV cameras are relatively low now a days.
