You can use predefined styles in Word 2003 to save time while creating a document. The Style Gallery lets you view examples of different predefined styles and insert blank versions of these styles in a new document. Once you have selected a predefined style, it is applied to your document and you can create and modify the document.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2003
  • Computer

Step1
Open a new Word 2003 document. Pull down the "Format" menu. Scroll down and left-click on "Theme" to begin using predefined styles in Word 2003.
Step2
Click on the "Style Gallery" button at the bottom of the "Theme" window. This opens a window that displays a "Template" list, a "Preview" box and three "Preview" check boxes.
Step3
Select the name of the template that you want to use from the "Template" list. Choose a predefined template that closely matches the style you want to create.
Step4
Click on the type of preview you want to display in the "Preview" box. "Document" displays your current document, while "Example" shows you a sample document using the chosen template. Clicking on style samples will only give you the fonts and formatting used in the template.
Step5
Experiment with different templates to get the best fit for your document. When you are satisfied, click on the "OK" button to apply the predefined style to your document.

Tips & Warnings

  • To see how a predefined style will affect the layout and appearance of your document, use the "Preview" feature Select a template from the list and click on "Document." The changes will appear in the "Preview" box.
