An eBay Store lets you display your listings and provide information about your business. It costs more to have a store on eBay, but you can customize your page and promote your items through your eBay storefront.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer

Step1
Register on eBay. Visit the eBay Web site and click the “Register” link at the top of the page. Fill out the required information. A confirmation link will be sent to your email address.
Step2
Verify your identity. Provide a valid credit card or checking account number.
Step3
Meet the store requirements by having your ID verified, a PayPal account in good standing or a feedback rating of at least 20.
Step4
Go to the eBay Stores page and click “Open a Store,” or follow the link at the bottom of this page.
Step5
Choose a subscription level and a store name, and then click “Continue.” Select additional discount options and click “Continue.” You’ll receive an overview and the terms of your subscription. Agree to the terms and click “Subscribe.”
Step6
Add your logo and set up your store layout by clicking “Manage My Store.”
Step7
Build an inventory. You'll have to start selling items to qualify for an eBay listing.
Step8
Click the “Sell” link.
Step9
Type the name of what you are selling. Give eBay a basic idea of the item you are about to sell and click “Sell it” to find your appropriate categories. You can always change this information.
Step10
Select one or two categories from the “Search for Categories” window. If you don’t find an appropriate category, click “Browse for Categories” to see all of them.
Step11
Type in a title (adding a subtitle currently costs an extra $.50). Choose something attention-grabbing and descriptive. Tell the buyer as much about your item as possible in one line.
Step12
Choose the "Add Pictures" button to launch eBay Picture Services. Wait for the enhancement to install.
Step13
Click the “Basic” tab to upload pictures from your hard drive. Click the “Browse” button and find an image you want to upload. Repeat for each picture that you want to upload, and then click “Upload Pictures.”
Step14
Click the “Self-Host” tab and enter the URL for your image if you have a Web site where you store your pictures.
Step15
Use the “Enhanced” picture selector to browse and preview images on your hard drive.
Step16
Depending on your category, you’ll have more options to choose next. For example, if your item is a toy, select the type of toy and designate an appropriate age level. Choose the condition of the item from the drop-down menu.
Step17
Enter your description. This is the detailed information buyers can read when they click your link. Provide as much information as possible. Detail any damage to your item or problems with its functionality.
Step18
Set the starting price (the minimum price you expect to receive). Select “Online Auction” to accept bids or “Fixed Price” to sell it for the starting price. Choose a “Buy It Now” price for customers who want to bypass bidding and immediately purchase the item.
Step19
Choose a quantity for multiple identical items sold to multiple buyers. If you are selling a matched pair of knives to one buyer, list the quantity as one. If you are selling three pairs to three different buyers, list the quantity as three.
Step20
Select all acceptable payment methods. If you will accept PayPal payments, enter the email address associated with your PayPal account.
Step21
Calculate shipping costs by clicking the little calculator. Enter information about your item into the calculator to get a fair estimate, or set the shipping to whatever you wish.
Step22
Enter additional information, such as buyer requirements or return policies.
Step23
Click the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page. Preview your auction page and confirm.
Step24
Wait for the auction to end. eBay will tell you whether your item has sold. Sellers will contact you or you can contact them to arrange payment.
Step25
Wait for payment confirmation from PayPal or for the check to arrive and clear.
Step26
After receiving payment for the item, send it to the buyer’s address. If everything goes well, leave positive feedback with detailed comments. You’ll be provided with a link to leave feedback the next time you log in to your eBay account after making a sale.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your description simple and free of hyperbole. Avoid sounding like an overzealous salesperson or telemarketer.
  • Include a gallery picture to showcase your item.
  • Be honest and prompt. Ripping people off can jeopardize your seller rating and possibly get your account deleted.
