Tired of seeing the same old décor when you open your eyes every morning? Here’s how to change up the vibe without buying new furniture…

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The easiest and least expensive way to spruce up your bedroom is to buy a new duvet cover or quilt in a different style or color. Or if you’re handy, sew one up yourself. If you can afford it, get matching shams and sheets too. You’d be surprised how this one item can change the whole look of your room. Great places to shop for funky, inexpensive duvet covers are Ikea and Target. More traditional styles can be found on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond or the like.

  2. Step 2

Go bright or graphical if you’ve had pastels or a plain bed cover before. The bigger the contrast, the more it will feel like a real redesign.

  3. Step 3

Get a couple of accessories to match, like a bedside lamp, throw pillow, rug or picture frame. Ikea has several cool examples of all of these for under ten bucks, as does Target. Flea markets and thrift stores are great places to shop for accessories too.

  4. Step 4

Rotate the pictures or posters on your wall or try new photos in the same frames. Replace one of them with a hanging mirror. This is guaranteed to give you a new outlook.

  5. Step 5

If you’re really feeling adventurous, take one of the colors from your new linens and paint your wall that shade or a complimentary one. You can take the pillow sham to the home improvement store to get an exact color match…

  6. Step 6

Finally, if you use a room freshener, try a different scent. And have sweet dreams in your new room!
