Replacing the light fixture is a simple way to update the overall look of your bathroom.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn off power to the electrical box. Use a circuit tester to verify that there is not an active current before you work with the wiring.

  2. Step 2

Install the mounting bracket for the lighting fixture.

  3. Step 3

Connect the wiring for the fixture. Connect white wire to white wire by twisting them together and then screwing on a wire nut. Repeat the process for the black wires and the grounding (copper-colored) wires.

  4. Step 4

Install the mounting screws for the fixture. Position the fixture over the screws and rotate to hold in place. Tighten the screws to secure the fixture.

  5. Step 5

    Install the light bulb.

  6. Step 6

Restore power to the electrical box.

Tips & Warnings
  • Support the new fixture before it is fully attached so there is no strain on the wiring.
  • If the wiring or insulation in the electrical box is brittle or frayed, call an electrician.
  • If there is not an existing power source for your light fixture, call an electrician.
