How to Install a Ceiling Fixture in a Bathroom

Replacing the light fixture is a simple way to update the overall look of your bathroom.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Light fixture
• Circuit tester
• Screwdriver

1. Turn off power to the electrical box. Use a circuit tester to verify that there is not an active current before you work with the wiring.

2. Install the mounting bracket for the lighting fixture.

3. Connect the wiring for the fixture. Connect white wire to white wire by twisting them together and then screwing on a wire nut. Repeat the process for the black wires and the grounding (copper-colored) wires.

4. Install the mounting screws for the fixture. Position the fixture over the screws and rotate to hold in place. Tighten the screws to secure the fixture.

5. Install the light bulb.

6. Restore power to the electrical box.

• Support the new fixture before it is fully attached so there is no strain on the wiring.
• If the wiring or insulation in the electrical box is brittle or frayed, call an electrician.
