We have 6 small long haired chihuahuas and a tiny teacup Chihuahua. I was a foods major in College, and we were told by all the vets to never give our puppies regular cows milk, so we didn't until we had a crisis. We were told by our breeder and our vet to only give the puppies only the premium quality puppy pellets of a superior manufacturer- which we did. However, at first our little female long hair Chihuahua has had about 7 seizures that we were aware of beginning at about 8 weeks. They would last about 1-2 minutes and she would become stiff and paralyzed. We were told it could be hypoglycemia, etc.. She had her first litter of 4 very healthy puppies and when the puppies were less than 4 weeks old, she collapsed one evening. We rushed her to the 24 hr. animal hospital and her calcium level was 4.0 instead of between 7-11, and we were told she could have died. We had to wean the puppies and the puppies, hated and refused the puppy canned formula. I went to the store and bought the best quality organic whole milk in our area (Promised Land). I had heard that 2% or low fat did not agree with some animals. We made a soupy mixture of about 3/4 cup whole milk, 3 tablespoons of baby food strained turkey, and 1/2 cup of puppy Eucanuba (which we put 1/2 cup warm water over and let it sit for a half hour so it was mushy), then we added 1 to 2 little drops of cod liver oil. -- since then we have had no seizures of anyone - no diarrhea, everyone has been healthy and everyone loves it!
