Instructions

    • 1

Log on to your computer. Visit eBay.com and sign in using your username and password.

    • 2

Pick a selection from the categories on the left side of the screen to find the item you desire. You may also search directly, by typing a keyword into the search box at the top right of any eBay page.

    • 3

Click on Desired Item Listing. This will take you to that listing's description page.

    • 4

Read the description thoroughly; if you have questions you may write to the seller. To do this, go to the bottom of the page and click "Ask Seller a Question". It will appear underlined, in blue lettering.

    • 5

Find the blue "Place Bid" box on the item's description page. You may find an icon next to the bid box that reads, "Buy it Now." When this option is available, you may use it to end the auction immediately, for a price given by the seller.

    • 6

Click the blue "Place Bid Box". Here you must decide what to bid. You may wish to research the actual value, going rate and the maximum you would pay for your item.

    • 7

Take note of when the auction will end. This information is given with the listing, on the far right of the screen, as well as on the description page, beneath the 'Place Bid' box.

    • 8

Check the status of your bid by clicking "My eBay" at the top of the screen. You should check your bid frequently to ensure you have not been outbid. Bidding in the last few seconds of an auction can increase your chances of winning, though others will try doing so as well.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wait until the auction nears closing to avoid driving the price up needlessly.

  • If multiple people are bidding against you for an item, look to see whether there is another of the same item for sale.

  • Look at the rating number and sales history of the seller to ensure credibility.
