How to Conquer Final Fantasy X the Easy Way: Machina Fight

You're on your way out of the Calm Lands and lo and behold, the Guado are attempting to round you up again. Funny, they brought along a big Machina to stop you, and they tell you they'll take you dead or alive. The face of Yevon sure is strange. At any rate, it's time to make scrap out of this big lug!

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure you save first! This guy has the moves to take any of your people down in a single hit, so be careful! All his attacks are physical, so equip any items that boost defense and hit points (HP). Any weapons you have with either Evade or Evade and Counter will help a lot.

    • 2

If you do not have overdrives for your Aeons, now is the time! Aeon overdrives will save you a world of trouble in this fight.

    • 3

Use Auron's Armor Break on him and keep it going. This will remove the Machina's Armored status, allowing physical attacks to hurt it a lot more.

    • 4

Use Wakka's Dark Attack and Dark Buster on it to keep it from hitting your people too hard.

    • 5

Have everyone throw their overdrives, then have Yuna bring in the Aeons one by one.

    • 6

Use your Aeon overdrives to take the big lug down a peg.

    • 7

Be aware that your Aeons will probably die in two hits. However, if you have ensured that all your people have already done their thing, a continual stream of Aeon overdrives will take it down pretty quickly.

    • 8

Watch out! Near the end of the fight, the Machina will cast Mighty Guard on itself, giving it all four Nul-Elements, Protect and Shell. DO NOT attack it before you have Yuna cast Dispel on it! Attacking it when it has Mighty Guard up will do next to nothing!

    • 9

Resume your attacks once you have Dispeled its Mighty Guard.

    • 10

Make your choice once the Machina is dead. You are faced with two diverging paths now. You can either head down the ramp the Machina came up or head to Mt. Gagazet. Going down the ramp leads you to the Sunken Cave (or Cavern of the Stolen Fayth). There is some good loot and XP to be had down there, but it is dangerous. You can always come back later if you wish. Be aware that the Aeon Yojimbo is at the back of the Sunken Cave, and to obtain him, you must buy his services. For this reason, we recommend not entering the Sunken Cave unless you have at least 220,000 gil.
