N3 or Ninety-Nine Nights is a hack-and-slash RPG (roll-playing game) for the Xbox 360, and it's a lot of fun to play. It’s a simple game that involves you choosing a character and fighting through hordes of enemies to achieve a series of objectives. The cinematics are excellent, the gameplay simple and the world intriguing. Immerse yourself in the land of Ninety-Nine Nights!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Choose your character. There are seven characters in the game, all of which must be "unlocked" through gameplay. To begin with, you have Inphyy: expert swordswoman and commander of the Temple Knights. As you play more and more, you will unlock new characters.
Step2
Choose a mission. The story progresses in a linear fashion; however, once you have completed a campaign, you can go back and play it again. Actually this is recommended, as you can collect items and weapons you may have missed, as well as obtain more experience for your characters.
Step3
Select your troops. Ninety-Nine Nights allows you to take four types of soldiers with you into battle: Infantry, Heavy Infantry, Pikemen and Archers. All have their uses in combat. The Infantry are good all-around fighters and can move relatively quickly. Heavy Infantry are very powerful and well-armored, but slow. Pikemen are excellent at defense and can move quickly. Archers are fast and have a ranged attack, but are vulnerable in heavy melee combat.
Step4
Fight! Use a combination of the X and Y buttons to perform attacks. The loading screens will feature a few attack combos, but pressing "Start" once the mission begins will allow you to select the Combos option. This will show you all the different fighting moves your character has. Of course, you only really know what it does after you use it.
Step5
Press the "Back" button to view your character’s status (your character’s health, orb power, statistics and items equipped). This screen also allows you to equip new weapons and items you find.
Step6
Watch for objectives! Quite frequently, you will be given secondary mission objectives such as to eliminate the Goblin Commander, find the Shamans or eliminate the Dragon Handlers. These are important to carry out quickly, as delaying these objectives can spell disaster for your troops.
Step7
Eliminate the enemy. It is important to make sure an enemy unit is wiped out completely before moving on. If just one enemy remains, your soldiers will stay behind to fight it, leaving your army understrength for its next battle. If either of the green marks on your minimap (upper-right corner of the screen) are flashing red, there is an enemy around somewhere!
Step8
Use your Orb attack. Notice the little red balls that pop out of defeated enemies? Those are Orb energy. They will come to you automatically; there's no need to try and collect them. When the red gauge next to your yellow health gauge starts flashing red and yellow, you can press the B button to unleash an Orb attack. These are extremely powerful strikes that can lay waste to entire units of enemies! Use them when you must.
Step9
Use your Orb spark in dire emergencies. As your use your Orb attacks, you may notice that the red orb energy is now blue. This powers your Orb spark gauge. When the blue gauge is fully powered and there are a lot of enemies around, let loose the attack! The Orb spark is ridiculously powerful and will instantly and painfully eradicate the enemy!
Step10
Be sure to save after every mission. There are no checkpoints, savepoints or devices that allow you to re-enter a mission partway through.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although the title of the game is written in both Japanese and English, there is no option for Japanese dialogue, just the dubbing.

on 3/24/2008 I played through this game and the hardest part about it was the fact that

1) You needed higher weapons to get better rankings.
2) Even at level 9 I couldn't always get even a Rank A or better
3) Got really annoying playing through multiple missions over and over again.

But an overall great article, I enjoyed it.
