Apple, cherry, pumpkin, Boston Cream. Is there anyone who doesn’t like pie? It only makes sense to set aside an entire day to celebrate our national dessert, that tasty concoction of crust and filling. That’s what the American Pie Council thought when they proposed that January 23rd of each year be designated as National Pie Day. Here are some suggestions for celebrating National Pie Day in style.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pie. Lots of it.
  1. Step 1

Share your pie. Bake a pie for a neighbor and leave it on their porch or doorstep at daybreak. Don’t tell them it was you!

  2. Step 2

Bring a pie to work for your co-workers. Don’t forget the paper plates, plastic forks and napkins.

  3. Step 3

Have a pie delivered to the morning disc jockeys at your local radio station along with a note asking them to publicize National Pie Day and suggest that everyone in their listening area buy a pie for a neighbor today.

  4. Step 4

Bake a pie with your kids. There’s something special about baking a pie together that makes memories for a lifetime.

  5. Step 5

Throw a Pie Party. Invite friends and neighbors over for pie and coffee. You provide the coffee, they bring the pies. Indulge and enjoy.

  6. Step 6

Make pies for the less privileged. Join with a church group, youth group or group of co-workers to bake a dozen pies of all varieties. Deliver the whole lot to a local homeless shelter.

  7. Step 7

Try an unusual pie. Some varieties you might sniff out include strawberry and rhubarb, sweet potato and mincemeat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Call ahead to a homeless shelter to see if your group can provide dessert for the meal on National Pie Day.
  • Always observe safety rules when baking with children.
