Franklin Delano Roosevelt, born January 30, 1882, was the 32nd President of the United States, and is consistently named as one of the three greatest U.S. presidents by scholars of U.S. history. Here are some ways to celebrate his birthday.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a contribution to the March of Dimes. Roosevelt, stricken with polio, was a major force behind the establishment of the March of Dimes. Funds raised by the March of Dimes led to the development of the Salk vaccine that has all but eradicated the disease.

  2. Step 2

Revive the Birthday Ball. In 1934, Roosevelt launched the Birthday Ball in an attempt to raise money for polio research. That year, 600 communities held Birthday Balls. Host your own Birthday Ball in memory of Roosevelt’s efforts.

  3. Step 3

Celebrate Thanksgiving in August. Roosevelt was the reason that Congress passed a formal declaration making Thanksgiving the last Thursday in November.

  4. Step 4

Visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, N.Y.

  5. Step 5

Visit Springwood in Hyde Park, N.Y., Roosevelt’s home and burial site, now a National Historical Site.

  6. Step 6

Tour the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial in Washington D.C.

  7. Step 7

Read the text of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Fireside Chats.

  8. Step 8

Quote Franklin D. Roosevelt throughout the day.
