How to Format a Table Field in Access 2003

Formatting a table field in Microsoft Office Access 2003 is easier than you may think and is a good way to familiarize yourself with Access and a few of its abilities. These are the steps to take to format a table field in Access 2003.

      Open the table in "Design View." Right click on the table that you want to add a field to and click on "Design View." This should open the table.

      Click on the next blank row below all of the other fields. This field will appear at the end of the fields.

      Name the field. Click in the field name column and enter any title that will best represent the information that you will enter into the field.

      Tab over to the "Data Type" column. Click on the arrow, scroll down and select a data type that you decide will best fit the field.

      Type a description of the field in the "Description" field to the right of the "Data Type" field. Appropriately describe the information of the contents within the field.

Tips & Warnings

  • Want to add a field somewhere between other fields? Click on the row below the row where you want to add the field and continue with Step 3.

  • When you select the "Currency" data type, the default currency is the U.S. dollar. If you would like to change this, click in the "Format Row" under the "General" tab, click on the arrow and select the proper currency.
