How to Create and Delete Records in Access 2003

Microsoft Access 2003 is a great tool for creating, managing and modifying databases. Like any tool or application, the more that you use it, the more adept you will become. Creating and deleting records in Access is one of the simplest things tasks. Here are some steps that will help you to create and delete records in Access 2003.

To Create Records

1. When in Access, Open a new database by clicking on "New" under "File" at the top of your screen. A new window should appear on the right side of your screen.
2. Click on "Blank Database." This is located under "New" on the right side of your screen.
3. Name the record and select "Create" when the "File New Database" window pops up. This will also open a new window that will give numerous options to create and change a record.
4. Double-click on "Create Table" in Design View. From there you are allowed to fill out the fields with whatever information you’d like.

To Delete Records

5. Open the file that you would like to delete. Go to "File" at the top of your screen and click on "Open." From there, click on the record that you want to delete from a list of records that have appeared on the right side of your screen.
6. Click on the record that you would like to delete. When you click on the record it should become highlighted.
7. Click on the "Delete" button at the top of the database box. Click on "Yes" to confirm your deletion of the record.

Tips & Warnings

• Use a "Delete Query" to delete multiple records.
• Make a backup copy of the record that you want to modify before you delete it as a safety procedure.
• Make sure that you are deleting the right record. Once the record is deleted it cannot be retrieved.
