  1. Step 1

    Open your Word document. You can do this by clicking “Start” and then choosing “Microsoft Word” from the menu.

  2. Step 2

    Open your document. Go to “File” at the top left of your window. From there choose “Open.” Now you can select your document from the list provided.

  3. Step 3

    Highlight the section of text where you are adjusting the alignment. Select the “Align Left,” “Align Right” or “Align Center” button from the “Formatting” toolbar at the top of the screen.

  4. Step 4

    Modify the vertical alignment of text to adjust its placement between the top and bottom of a page.

  5. Step 5

    Open the “File” menu. This is located at the top left of your window. From the “File” menu select “Page Setup” and then the “Layout” tab.

  6. Step 6

    Make your changes in the “Vertical Alignment” box. You can make all of your changes here.

Tips & Warnings
  • Changing the left or right indent of a paragraph is another method of varying text alignment in a Word 2003 document. Highlight the paragraph where you want to change the indentation. To modify its left indent, select either the “Decrease Indent” or “Increase Indent” button from the “Formatting” toolbar.
  • To adjust the right indent, highlight the paragraph to indent. Then click and drag the arrow-shaped right indent marker on the horizontal ruler at the top of the window. Release the marker where you want the indent to be.
  • Remember to save your work. Nothing is final until it is saved.
