Updating your computer with a new case can give a fresh and aesthetic look. With a variety of options available in the market, you can ensure that your new case meets your current requirement and the growing need of the future. The following is how to update your computer with a new case.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Check the specifications of your machine. Select a computer case that exactly fits your motherboard and all other components.
Step2
Ensure that the case has enough number of drive bays and expansion slots to meet your current and future needs. Usually, there are four 5.25 inches and three 3.5 inches expansion bays in a case.
Step3
Select the material of the case. Computer cases are mostly made of steel or aluminum. Some cases are made of acrylic glass. Choose the case depending on the material you prefer and is suitable.
Step4
Plan your budget for the case. Learn more about the features and prices of various computer cases by referring to online buyers’ guides. Browse through reviews and compare pricing. Some popular buyers’ guides are NexTag, Windows Marketplace, MySimon and Epinions (see links below).
Step5
Ensure that your computer is switched off before you start the replacing process. Let all the parts cool down.
Step6
Unplug all the cables attached to the computer carefully and open the existing computer case. Rotate the screwdriver counter-clockwise to open the screws.
Step7
Remove the case from the rest of the assembly carefully and align the new case with your machine.
Step8
Push the new case gently and align it well until you hear a snap sound. This will ensure that the case has been placed in correct position.
Step9
Fix all the screws back into their respective places. Rotate the screw clockwise and tighten them.
Step10
Connect all the cables in their respective slots.
Step11
Switch on the computer and check if it is working properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you keep the screws on a dry surface while removing the old case.
  • Wear an anti-static wristband to prevent static electricity discharge.
  • Do not force the new case on your machine. An ill-fitting case can adversely affect the functioning of the computer.
