How to Check the Amount of Memory Your Computer Has

Computer memory determines amount of data you can store on your machine. If your computer has less memory, the system can crash while running memory intensive programs. You must know the storage space available in your machine, as it assists with your decision to upgrade your PC. Here is how to find the amount of memory in your computer:

Check the Memory of a PC

1. Turn your computer on and wait for Windows to load.

2. Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties." Doing so will open up "Systems Properties."

3. Press on the "General" tab. Here you will view the physical memory installed on your computer. The amount indicated is the total RAM installed on your computer. It is measured in MB or GB.

4. Check the amount of memory in use currently. To know this, open the taskbar or press "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" to open a pop up window.

5. Click on "Task Manager". Press the "Performance" button. You can view the amount of memory currently used by each program running on your PC.

Check the Memory of a Macintosh OS

1. Turn on your computer and wait for Mac OS X to load.

2. Choose "About This Mac" from the menu located on the top left corner of the screen.

3. Open "Activity Monitor" from the "Utilities" folder.

4. Click on the "System Memory" button located at the bottom of the window. You will know the amount of RAM installed and the current usage.
