How to Celebrate National Handwriting Day

January 23 is National Handwriting Day, also John Hancock’s birthday. Celebrate this unique holiday with your family and friends. We’ve gathered a list of fun things to do.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pen and paper
  • Ingredients for baking a cake
  • Scrapbook
  • Book about handwriting
  1. Step 1

    Bake a cake for John Hancock and share it. Have everyone sign the cake in frosting.

  2. Step 2

    Check out a book on handwriting from the library and have fun with friends analyzing each other's handwriting.

  3. Step 3

    Learn a little bit about John Hancock and the Declaration of Independence.

  4. Step 4

    Have everyone sign a page for your scrapbook.

  5. Step 5

    Hand-write a letter to someone you love who lives far away, and sign it with a big signature.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your kids funny questions about handwriting. You might come up with fun games from their answers.
  • Knowing how to write in cursive improves children’s skills in school--use the holiday as an excuse to practice!
