  • Cell phone for each person
  • Water
  • Balloons or leashes for children

    Safety for Singles

  1. Step 1

Stand firm. Sturdy shoes will help your balance in a large crowd.

  2. Step 2

Keep your wallet in an inner pocket and do not fiddle with it. If you normally carry a purse, consider leaving it at home and puting your essentials in your pocket for the day.

  3. Step 3

Move away from violence calmly but quickly. Allow the police to break up fights and do not involve yourself.

  4. Step 4

Avoid dangerous areas like the mouths of alleys.

  5. Step 5

Limit your alcohol intake, especially if you are alone.

  6. Safety for Couples

  7. Step 1

Connect with each other using cell phones if you get separated. If you don’t have cell phones, consider buying pay-as-you-go phones for the event. As an alternative, find a landmark and agree to meet there immediately if you lose track of each other.

  8. Step 2

Stay connected when moving through crowds. Hold hands or link arms to keep from being separated accidentally.

  9. Step 3

Keep an eye on each other. Watch for drunkenness, overheating, dehydration and signs of stress.

  10. Safety for Families

  11. Step 1

Tie a balloon to your child’s pants. Kids are hard to spot in crowds, but you are more likely to see his balloon bobbing along. If there are many balloons, buy a unique one or draw on the balloon.

  12. Step 2

Invest in a leash or other connection. Small children may not understand the dangers of wandering away.

  13. Step 3

Watch the children carefully. Never assume that your partner or spouse has them. You might both be assuming while the children wander away.

  14. Step 4

Give children water frequently, and don’t forget to drink some yourself.

Tips & Warnings
  • A prepaid phone like Tracfone can be a lifesaver at crowded events.
  • Have someone call your hotel room or home after the event to make sure you got home okay. Give them a plan of action to take if you don’t answer.
  • Don’t let yourself get dehydrated or you could suffer from conditions like heat stroke or fainting. Carry a water bottle and sip throughout the day.
