You can create Command buttons in Microsoft Access using the Wizard feature. Follow these easy directions to use the Wizard to add command buttons to a form or report in Access 2003.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Access 2003
  1. Step 1

Open a form or a data access page in the “Design” view section of Access 2003.

  2. Step 2

Check the toolbox to see if the “Control Wizards” tool, which looks like a wand with little bubbles coming off of it, is pressed in. This procedure will not work if the Control Wizard is not activated.

  3. Step 3

Click the “Command” button, which looks like a small horizontal rectangle, in the toolbox.

  4. Step 4

Click on the spot in the form or data access page where you want the “Command” button to go.

  5. Step 5

Read and carefully follow the directions in the Wizard dialogue boxes.

  6. Step 6

Click “Finish” when you reach the last dialogue box to display the “Command” button in Design view.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the Wizard does not start up, it could be because your Access program is running in sandbox mode, but Microsoft Jet 4.0 SP8 or later is not installed on your computer. Jet 4.0 SP8 is needed for Access 2003 to function fully when sandbox mode is enabled.
  • Wizards are not available in stand-alone data access pages or when you point a data access page to a database other than the one that is currently open.
  • The Command Button Wizard is not available when the data access page is not bound to a table or query. In this case, you will have to create a “Command” button without using the wizard.
