Sorting your records in Microsoft Access 2003 allows you to view your data in whatever order or format that you find the most comprehensible. It makes for a simpler display of the information and for easier interpretation of it. Follow these instructions to sort records in a table in Access 2003.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Access 2003

Step1
Install and open Microsoft Access 2003. With the program open, click the “Open” icon to browse your files for the database you want to sort records in.
Step2
Open the database window using the “F11” key. Open the “Table” tab since you are sorting in a table. To sort in a form later, you can click the “Form” tab at this step.
Step3
Find the table you want to work with in the list of forms that is displayed when you select the Table tab. Select the table then click the “Open” icon to open it.
Step4
Select the fields in your table that you want to utilize in sorting your table.
Step5
Select the “Records” menu, and select from the options how you want your records sorted in your table (ascending, descending, sequentially by number).
Step6
Remove your sort by clicking the “Remove Filter/Sort” option in same menu as Step 4.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should access data through forms.
  • Make sure you have the correct fields selected for your sort.
