The finderscope is a supplementary telescope mounted on the main telescope. It helps to point the telescope at the desired object to be observed in the sky. In the case of the Sky-Watcher SK8035TAEQ, a red dot finder is used. Like all other finderscopes, the red dot finder should be accurately aligned with the main telescope before it is used. This is done with the help of azimuth and altitude control knobs. Here is how to align the red dot finder with the main telescope.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Red dot finder
  • Eyepiece

Step1
Pull the battery cover down and open it.
Step2
Remove the plastic cover over the battery.
Step3
Rotate the variable brightness control clockwise until you hear a click. This indicates the red dot finder has been turned on.
Step4
Continue to rotate the control knob to increase the brightness level.
Step5
Insert a low-power eyepiece into the telescope’s focus tube.
Step6
Trace a bright object and direct the telescope so that the object lies in the center of the field of view.
Step7
Keep both eyes open and gaze at the object through the site tube. If the red dot overlaps the object, the red dot finder is perfectly aligned. If not, move to the next step.
Step8
Turn the azimuth and altitude adjustment controls of the red dot finder until the red dot merges with the object.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep both the eyes open while sighting the object or you may not get accurate results.
