When Valentine’s Day approaches, our thoughts turn to how we might best express our feelings to our loved ones. Make that special someone feel really special with a handmade card. Your card doesn’t have to be fancy—no matter how it turns out your partner will love knowing you took the time to make it. Here are some ideas for creating an unforgettable Valentine’s Day card.

  • Internet access
  • Color printer for printing downloaded images
  • Printer and sturdy paper stock for design templates
  • Construction paper, glue and tape, scissors and glitter

    Finding Card Ideas

  1. Step 1

    Search online for "Valentine's Day images." You'll find great pictures you can print and cut out to decorate your card.

  2. Step 2

    You can also find templates with designs and instructions for making cards online. Visit Enchanted Learning online to find many great Valentine’s cards that are easy to make (this site is aimed at kids, but it’s a good place to start for anyone).

    Assemble your crafting materials—construction paper, glue and tape, scissors, glitter, scraps of fabric and lace, tissue paper, photos and anything else you think of.

  5. Step 2

    Choose a card shape—perhaps a flower, butterfly or heart.

  6. Step 3

    Decorate your card with the materials you’ve gathered. Choose any layout that appeals to you.

  7. Step 4

    Write a message on your card.

  8. Step 5

    Find an envelope and mail the card or attach it to a Valentine's gift.
