The Super Bowl ranks as the biggest one-day sporting event in the world, with billions of viewers every year. Most of us watch from our homes or from a sports bar. If you’re one of the lucky few, you’ll follow the action from your stadium seat, screaming yourself hoarse along with other NFL zealots. For most of us who’d love to watch the game in person, money looms as the biggest stumbling block. Unless you know someone connected to the event, it is virtually impossible to buy tickets at face value. Tickets, traveling expenses and accommodations can compose a hefty bill. You can reduce your outlay by finding the cheapest tickets possible. Here are some trade secrets for doing just that.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A computer and Internet connection
  • A method of payment for online use

Try to Get Face Value Tickets

Step1
Enter the NFL Super Bowl ticket lottery. Your chances of winning are nearly infinitesimal, but the lucky few have the opportunity to buy as many four tickets at face value.
Step2
Try purchasing tickets from TicketReserve. You won’t obtain great seats, but you won’t pay much more than face value for them. See the Tips & Warnings section for details.
Step3
Buy tickets from a ticket broker. You’ll pay more than face value, but they’re cheaper than getting tickets from a ticket merchant such as TicketMaster.

Buy From Online Ticket Merchants

Step1
Search online for ticket merchants. See the More Resources section of this article for ideas.
Step2
Compare prices between different ticket merchants. Some offer bulk discounts if you’re buying several tickets and some offer free shipping and other incentives. Shop around to get the best deal.
Step3
Consider pre-ordering your tickets. This can often get you a good discount, but you’re not guaranteed a specific seat—instead you’ll get random seats in a specific area of the stadium.
Step4
Consider getting Super Bowl tickets as part of a package deal that includes travel and accommodations. If you shop around you might be able to save some money.

Tips & Warnings

  • TicketReserve offers you the chance to buy tickets with a system that works like a sweepstakes. You buy options tied to the team of your choice, and if that team reaches the final, you can buy tickets at face value (plus the cost of the option).
  • Don’t assume that tickets are included if you buy a Super Bowl travel package. Check with the operator to make sure tickets are included. Those tickets must come guaranteed. Make sure you're entitled to a full refund if you don't receive them,
  • Beware of ticket scalpers if you try to purchase on game day. A common scam is to resell used tickets. There’s no way to tell if a ticket has been used. However, if the scalper's price sounds too good to be true, it probably is. To be safe, you should avoid scalpers altogether.

on 2/21/2008 I used your web site to buy tickets to super bowl 42. After finding that tickets were very expensive and after getting back from the game, I opened www.shareasuperbowlticket.com The premise is that a fan from every team pitches in so we buy 2 super bowl tickets, the 2 fans of the winning teams get the ticket to the game. How much you pitch in depends how good the team is, Dolphins fans would pay $13, Pats fans $500.00, we are fully licensed and guaranteed through Paypal, have your readers try it for the best way to get a ticket to see their team. Thanks for your advice.
