How to Select a Template in PowerPoint 2003

PowerPoint 2003 includes a variety of templates, ranging from simple to complex. Follow the instructions below to select a template.

Things You'll Need:

  • PowerPoint 2003
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

    Open PowerPoint 2003, and then the project you want to work on.

  2. Step 2

    Locate the "Formatting" toolbar at the top right of your screen and click the "New Slide" button.

  3. Step 3

    Look in the "Slides" window on the left and find all of the slides for the new template. Hold down the "Shift" key and click on those slides.

  4. Step 4

    Select a layout from the list of templates located in the "Slide Layout" window on the right of your screen.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the drop-down arrow located on the slide you have selected. Select "Apply to Selected Slides" from the list of options.

  6. Step 6

    PowerPoint will apply the template to all of the slides you selected.

  7. Step 7

    Save and close your project when you are finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use similar templates throughout your slide show.
  • To add a design to your slide show, click the "Design" button on the "Formatting" toolbar and repeat steps 3 through 6.
  • Applying a template will erase all text you have written in your slide.
  • Choose your templates before you start adding text and other elements for best results.
