It's no secret that Top Ramen is cheap. In fact, you can usually find packets of it for $0.05 - $0.15. While that little packet of bountiful sustenance can easily help you survive on just pennies a day, there are many things you can do to many it better.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A pot big enough to hold the Ramen
  • Top Ramen Packets (BRAND IS MANDATORY) 2 per person
  • Large Bowl (or a Large Coffee Mug for 1 serving)
  • Colander (preferably one that rests over a sink)
  • Water
  • Flame
  1. Step 1

The first step is to select an appropriate flavor or flavor combination. You can select two flavors, one for the broth and one for the final touch. Personally, I suggest Chili as either a stand-alone or a base for the broth. A good follow-up is practically anything!

  2. Step 2

Once you get your $0.10 worth of goodness home, open up the packets and remove the separate packets of "Flavor". While it is not clear exactly what is in the "Flavor", it has a magical taste that turns ordinary noodles into Filet Mignon.

Keep them close though, since you'll need it soon.

  3. Step 3

Ignore the packets recommendations for water and instead try to gauge how much water you would need to completely submerge the noodles if they were stacked on top of each other.

Less water is better in this case, but be sure to use enough so that it won't completely evaporate.

  4. Step 4

Begin heating the water and immediately put in the "Flavor" packets that you intend to use for the broth. You should use about 50-60% of your "Flavor" packets here.

  5. Step 5

When the water begins to boil, begin adding the noodles. There is no need to break them apart, just make sure they are all submerged.

  6. Step 6

Turn the heat to High and let it sit for 15 minutes. You should stir occasionally so it doesn't burn, especially towards the end. As the water evaporates, be careful not to let it sit too long (or the noodles will stick to the bottom which makes it impossible to clean up).

You can leave it boiling on High for up to 30 minutes, if you prefer softer noodles.

  7. Step 7

When you're ready to eat, pour off some of the water if it hasn't boiled off enough so that the noodles on top are beginning to sit outside of the water.

At this point, add about 50% of your remaining "Flavor". Stir the noodles well and let them sit for another two minutes.

  8. Step 8

Place the large bowl in your sink and place the colander above it. Pour your concoction into the colander, trying to get as much of the broth into your bowl as possible.

  9. Step 9

Place the noodles on a plate. Sprinkle the remaining "Flavor" lightly over the noodles and voila! You're ready to eat! You're also officially a Master Top Ramen Chef!!!

The broth can either be discarded or sipped from a coffee mug. This is an EXCELLENT remedy for a sick loved one with an extremely concentrated (and salty) broth.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can easily add many things into the recipe at various points (in many cases for very little additional money) to increase the flavor, such as:
  • Add strips of steak or teriyaki beef.
  • Add your favorite vegetables to the broth early on.
  • Fry an egg and add it to the finished product.
  • Mix in a tiny bit of butter or butter-substitute to the finished product.
  • For an "asian-themed" ramen, mix in a TINY bit of teriyaki sauce or soy sauce.
  • For a spicy treat, add a shot of Tabasco or your favorite hot sauce.
  • Don't burn yourself.
  • Your friends and family may think you are cheap.
