How to Adjust the Microphone Gain on the Uniden PC78XL CB Radio

The gain on your Uniden CB radio adjusts the sensitivity of the microphone. Follow these instructions to ensure you have correctly set the gain.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Uniden PC78XL CB Radio
Step1
Locate the microphone jack on the front panel of the Uniden CB radio. The microphone jack is the first item on the bottom left side of the Uniden CB radio. It is round and has four small holes in the shape of a square.

Step2
Find the end of the microphone phone cord. Look for the unit on the end of that cord that has four prongs.

Step3
Align the four prongs on the end of the cord with the four holes in the microphone jack.

Step4
When the microphone is in place, you will need to make sure the antenna and power source are correctly attached to the CB radio.

Step5
Power on the CB radio using the "On/Off/Volume" knob.

Step6
Set the knob at an appropriate volume level.

Step7
Select a channel using the "Channel" knob.

Step8
When transmitting, you will need to adjust the microphone gain in order to modify the sensitivity of the microphone. Adjust the "Mic Gain" knob, located in the middle of the bottom of the front panel.

Step9
Continue adjusting the "Mic Gain" knob until you reach the desired setting.
