How to Remove a Crystal Chandelier

Removing a crystal chandelier is a delicate process. Whether you are taking the crystal chandelier with you to a new home or switching fixtures to add flair to a room, follow these steps.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Wire nuts
• Ladder
• Pliers with rubber-insulated handles
• Circuit tester

Instructions

1. Cut the power to the light fixture.

2. Remove the escutcheon plate from the chandelier.

3. Unscrew the wire nuts.

4. Apply a circuit tester to the exposed wires to ensure the power to the circuit is off.

5. Using a pair of pliers, open a link in the chandelier's suspension chain.

6. Take down the chandelier.

7. Remove the brace and all other hardware.

8. Put wire nuts on the exposed wires.

9. Push the wires into the ceiling.

10. Place a cover plate over the opening in the ceiling.
