How to Remove a Crystal Chandelier

Removing a crystal chandelier is a delicate process. Whether you are taking the crystal chandelier with you to a new home or switching fixtures to add flair to a room, follow these steps.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Cut the power to the light fixture.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the escutcheon plate from the chandelier.

  3. Step 3

    Unscrew the wire nuts.

  4. Step 4

    Apply a circuit tester to the exposed wires to ensure the power to the circuit is off.

  5. Step 5

    Using a pair of pliers, open a link in the chandelier's suspension chain.

  6. Step 6

    Take down the chandelier.

  7. Step 7

    Remove the brace and all other hardware.

  8. Step 8

    Put wire nuts on the exposed wires.

  9. Step 9

    Push the wires into the ceiling.

  10. Step 10

    Place a cover plate over the opening in the ceiling.
