How to Install Track Lighting Tracks

You can use track lighting to change the play of light and shadow in a room, creating different ambiences to fit your mood. If you follow these steps, you can install the tracks without professional help.

Things You'll Need:

• Track lighting tracks
• Screwdriver
• Pliers with rubber-coated handles

1. Remove the tracks and connectors from the package.
   
   

2. Make sure the power to the existing light is off before removing the old fixture.
   
   

3. Connect the wiring to your track connector.
   
   

4. Hold the track against the ceiling to identify where the mounting holes need to be. Drill the holes and then fasten the track in place with toggle bolts.
   
   

5. Attach the connector cover to the ends of the track.

• Consult an associate at the store to determine what parts you will need to install your lighting: heads, tracks and connectors.
• If you hit a stud while drilling the mounting holes, use a wood screw to anchor the track in that position.
• Make sure the track you buy is compatible with the fixtures you choose.
