How to Install a Bathroom Ceiling Fixture

You can alter the entire look and ambience of your bathroom by changing the ceiling fixture. Follow these steps to brighten the surroundings or create a subdued mood.

Things You'll Need:

• Screwdriver
• Light fixture

1. Turn off the power to the electrical box; use the circuit tester to be sure there is not an active current before working with the wiring.
   
   

2. Install the mounting bracket for the lighting fixture.
   
   

3. Connect the wiring for the ceiling fixture: connect one white wire to the other by twisting them together and screwing on a wire nut; repeat for the black wires and the grounding (copper-colored) wires.
   
   

4. Install the mounting screws for the fixture. Position the fixture over the screws and rotate to hold in place. Tighten the screws to secure the fixture.
   
   

5. Install the lightbulbs and shades.
   
   

6. Turn the power to the electrical box back on.

• Be sure to support the new fixture before it is fully attached so there will be no strain on the wiring.
• Always follow the instructions included with your lighting fixture to ensure that you assemble it correctly.
• If wires or insulation in the electrical box are brittle or frayed, call an electrician.
