Wall-mounted lights can be used to highlight artwork, provide reading lamps in the bedroom or illuminate your bathroom mirror. Follow these steps to find out how to install them.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off the power to the electric box.

  2. Step 2

In most cases, you'll be able to connect the wall mount fixture with a strap and nipple. The strap can be connected with screws. The wiring will need to be connected--white wire to white wire, black to black and grounding wire to grounding wire. The nipple should be inserted into the strap. The lighting fixture will be attached and secured with the knurled cap.

  3. Step 3

If the box has a central stud, once the wiring is connected, you'll only need an adapter attached to the central stud. Then you'll attach the nipple to the adapter and connect the fixture with the knurled cap.

  4. Step 4

Restore the power to the electric box.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always make sure that the power is turned off to the electrical box before installing a light fixture!
  • Always read the instructions that come with the light fixture that you purchased to be aware of any manufacturer's specific instructions.
  • If you're unfamiliar with electrical installations or the wiring in the box appears to be brittle or frayed, call an electrician to install the necessary wiring.
