The Meade 8-inch LightBridge truss tube Dobsonian telescope comes equipped with a red dot finder instead of the traditional crosshair configuration found in other telescopes. To get the most of your new red dot tool you need to align this tool with your telescope. Follow these steps to align the red dot finder.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Place the low-power 26mm eyepiece into your telescope.
Step2
Point the telescope at a land feature. Try a tree or a wind-vane.
Step3
Focus the image.
Step4
Make sure to center the object exactly in your telescope view field.
Step5
Turn on the red dot finder. Increase the intensity slider to a middle brightness level.
Step6
Look through the red dot finder.
Step7
If the red dot is centered on the target, you're finished. If not, go to the next step.
Step8
Adjust the red dot alignment screws to center the red dot on the object.
Step9
Place the red dot on the moon. Make fine adjustments with the screws on the celestial body.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use only your finger strength to tighten and adjust the truss knobs. Overtightening can cause stripping and other damage.
  • The red dot finder is a great addition to the telescope. Using this feature will speed up your ability to identify celestial bodies.
  • Be careful to not overtighten the bolts on the system. Overtightening the bolts can strip the threads. You'll have to reorder the screws or the inserts from the factory.
