How to Perform a One-Star Alt/Az Alignment of the Meade 8n LX90GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope

Only one star is chosen manually by the observer from the largedata base of Autostar. Complete Step 1 through 9, unless you have completed the initialization procedure then complete Step 6 through 9.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Press the Sun Warning Key prompt by Autostar.
Step2
Press enter to get started.
Step3
After entering the current date, press enter.
Step4
Enter the correct time along with choosing either AM, PM, or 24-hour clock(blank), then enter.
Step5
Choose "Yes" or "No" for Daylight Savings, then press enter.
Step6
Select Alignment "Align One Star" from setup menu and press enter.
Step7
Place the telescope in the home position.
Step8
Chose the star from the database "Select Star" using the scroll keys and press enter.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once aligned only use Autostar program (keys) to move the telescope; when loosening the bolts, screws or moving the telescope, alignment could be lost.
  • For tips on Operating Autostar's Keys, see "MOVING THROUGH AUTOSTAR'S MENUS."
  • Knowledge of the night sky will aid the observer in manually choosing a star for alignment.
  • The "Telescope: Mount" option does not need to be selected.
  • Verify that "INITIALIZING AUTOSTAR"has been performed before aligning the telescope.
