How to Perform a Two-Star Alt/Az Alignment of the Meade 8n LX90GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope

Two stars are chosen manually by the observer from the large database of Autostar. Complete Step 1 through 9, unless you have completed the initialization procedure then complete Step 6 through 9.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

1. Press the Sun Warning Key prompt by Autostar.
2. Press enter to get started.
3. After entering the current date, press enter.
4. Enter the correct time along with choosing either AM, PM, or 24-hour clock(blank), then enter.
5. Choose "Yes" or "No" for Daylight Savings, then press enter.
6. Select Alignment "Align Two Star" from setup menu and press enter.
7. Place the telescope in the home position.
8. Choose the first star from the database "Select Star" using the scroll keys and press enter.
9. After centering the first star press enter.
10. Repeat the process for the second star.

Tips & Warnings

• Two-star alignment by AutoStar does not provide automatic North, home, or level positions.

• Once aligned only use Autostar program (keys) to move the telescope; when loosening the bolts, screws or moving the telescope, alignment could be lost.
• Knowledge of the night sky will aid the observer in manually choosing two stars for alignment.
• The "Telescope: Mount" option does not need to be selected.
• Verify that "INITIALIZING AUTOSTAR" has been performed before aligning the telescope.
