How to Conquer Final Fantasy X the Easy Way: The Calm Lands

After the makeout scene with Tidus and Yuna, the group moves on to the Calm Lands. Kind of a deceptive name for a place with some very dangerous fiends. Are you up to it?

Instructions

1. Grind! The Calm Lands is one of the best places to level grind right now. There is a trading post in the central region where you can resupply and save your game. You may want to stick near there until you've gained a few levels.

2. Get your Aeons overdrives, then go talk to Belgemine (she is just southwest of the trading post.) She'll have you fight Shiva, so use Bahamut and finish it quickly. The reward: the Aeon's Soul, which allows you to boost your Aeon's stats!

3. Watch the tutorial on the Aeon's Soul is you're not already familiar with it. If you are, you may want to step out for a glass of water or a sandwich. Its not that long of a tutorial, though.

4. Head all the way to the east and look for a break in the wall. This leads to the Arena! Buy the Capture weapons from the master and start capturing when you feel you're ready. If you like, you can retrace your steps all the way back to Besaid and get a lot of capturing done now.

5. Venture into the Northwest corner of the Calm Lands when you're feeling lucky. This is where the most dangerous fiends can be found.

6. Run when you encounter a Malboro! These fiends are EXTREMELY dangerous! They have a Bad Breath attack that inflicts all manner of status ailments, including Confusion, on ALL party members! Without Auto-Med and Confuseproof armor, these fiends are certain death! Avoid them at all costs! Use Tidus' Flee ability if you encounter one. Alternatively, if you happen to have a First Strike weapon handy, you could use Rikku to bribe them. The asking price is around 200,000 Gil, and it doesn't always work. However if it does work, you could find yourself with some Wings to Discovery, which can be used to add Break HP Limit to armor!

7. Recruit the Al Bhed girl at the shop in the middle of the Calm Lands. Naida is an excellent Blitzball player!

8. Look for the Chocobo Trainer in the far northwest corner if you're interested in training a Chocobo now. This can earn you the Sigil needed for Tidus' Celestial Weapon! See the article on Beating the Chocobo Trainer for more details.

9. Head to the northeast corner when you are ready to leave. Make sure all your people and Aeons have overdrives and are ready for a tough fight.
