Instructions

  1. Obtaining a Pet

    • 1

Level up until you hit level 10.

    • 2

Talk to your local Hunter trainer and receive the quest to tame a pet. You will be asked to tame 3 different pets: one flyer, one on the ground and a final one of your choice.

    • 3

Take the Taming Rod and find yourself a suitable animal.

    • 4

Use the Taming Rod on the animal to begin taming. From here on, all you need to is wait and survive in order to tame the animal. DO NOT attack it!

    • 5

Bring your pet back to the trainer and get ready for the second task. You will need to abandon and defend yourself from the current pet before you attempt to train another one. To abandon the pet, right-click on its portrait and select "Abandon."

    • 6

Defend yourself from your now ex-pet!

    • 7

Use the Taming Rod to tame your second pet and bring it back to the trainer.

    • 8

Abandon and defeat your second pet, then find a suitable specimen for the final leg of the quest. Tame the pet of your choice and bring it back to your trainer. Congratulations! You have now taken your first step on the road to being a good trainer!

    Taming Tips

    • 9

Make sure to feed your pet immediately after taming it. Your pet will be unruly for a little while, and feeding it helps assuage its anguish at being domesticated. Feeding your pet, making sure it doesn't die and is not dismissed will ensure that your pet becomes loyal in short order.

    • 10

Recruit a Druid, Priest, Paladin or Shaman before attempt to tame a large and dangerous pet. All of these classes can heal you as you attempt to train a particularly fearsome pet, however, Druids have the added advantage of being able to put your perspective pet to sleep! This makes the taming process virtually painless!

    • 11

Be aware that you cannot tame humanoids and monsters whose names appear in red. These creatures are untamable.

    • 12

Do some research and find out which pets teach you the various skills. As you tame more and more pets, you will learn different skills from them that you can teach to other pets. Some pets have unique skills and are hard to tame, but can provide excellent benefits!

    • 13

Stable pets you would like to keep, but do not wish to use immediately. Pets do not lose loyalty or experience when stabled, so there's no need to worry.
