The iPod revolution has created a whole subculture. Mac is pressing hard to keep up with the pace, and has been putting out new, smaller, better and slicker iPods at a furious pace. If you are happy to have an older iPod, here is how to install software on an older iPod.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the Apple Web site (see below) and download and install the newest version if iTunes. Every version of every iPod has used iTunes since day one.

  2. Step 2

Locate the installation CD and put it in your disc drive. Should your iPod not have a CD, it is either a newer generation or its CD has been lost.

  3. Step 3

Insert the disc into the disc drive. On most computers, this will start an autorun program which will read the disc and begin installation of the iPod software.

  4. Step 4

Follow the instructions of the “Installation Wizard.” There should be a window of some kind that guides you through the installation process or monitors its progress.

  5. Step 5

Connect your iPod. Some computers will ask you to connect your iPod during the installation process. If this is the case, do so with the USB cable provided.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the Apple Web site regularly for updates for your iPod software and for new versions of iTunes.
  • Check to make sure which generation iPod you have before you begin the installation procedure.
  • Be sure you know which generation iPod you have before going forward with either installation procedure.
