If you've got a digital camera and an iPod with a color display (except for iPod Nano), you can transfer photos directly from a USB camera to your iPod with the Apple iPod Camera Connector, an optional accessory that lets you connect your camera and iPod together. This can be purchased through the Apple download site. When you have that, this is how you can load photos directly from a camera onto an iPod.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn on your iPod and attach the iPod Camera Connector to your iPod's dock connector.

  2. Step 2

Turn on your camera and set it to the correct mode for photo importing (if needed). You can check this through the features on your camera.

  3. Step 3

Connect the camera to the iPod Camera Connector using the USB cable that came with your camera.

  4. Step 4

On your iPod, select Import from the “File” menu on the main screen of iTunes. When it finishes, your photos will be listed on the iPod by roll number. It will take a few seconds for the camera to load.

Tips & Warnings
  • To use the iPod Camera Connector, your iPod must be running iPod Software 1.1 or higher. See "iPod: How to find software version" from the iPod section of Apple’s Web site to determine which version of iPod Software you are running (see below).
  • Make sure that both your iPod and camera have a charged battery.
  • You cannot use this feature with an iPod Nano.
