Blog Search is such a neat and handy tool used in conjunction with both Google and Blogger, allowing you to search for blogs, bloggers and specific blog content (that is, in blog posts) from blogs all over the world and from all different platforms. Whatever your passion, interests or burning question, you can find out what other people have to say about it, think about it or their particular experiences with it. One particular function in Blog Search is the ability to search for blogs in specific languages. The default setting—as well as the recommended setting—in Blog Search is all-inclusive, meaning that when you execute a search, the search results will include blogs written in all of the available languages. There are 35 languages on Blog Search with which you can restrict your search results. In addition to English, they are: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. So how do you use Blog Search to find blogs in a specific language? It’s really quite a simple process as long as you follow a few easy steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
Step1
Locate Blog Search using any of the available methods of getting there, whether through Blogger (the Blog Search site, your dashboard or any BlogSpot NavBar) or through the Google interface. See the Resources section for links.
Step2
Select “Advanced Search” for the Blogger interface, located to the right of the “Search Blogs” button, underneath “Use search options.”
Step3
Select “Advanced Blog Search” for the Google interface, located on top of “Preferences” and to the right of the search text box.
Step4
Scroll down to “Language” under “Filtering Options” in Blogger.
Step5
Switch from “Search for posts written in any language” to “Search only for posts written in these language(s).”
Step6
Click on the language or languages to which you would like to restrict your search results.
Step7
Find “Language” in the Google Blog Search site, and use the drop box to select the language of your choice. The only disadvantage to using Google for language selection is that you can only select one language at a time.
Step8
Fill in all the other search criteria you would like, such as keywords, exact phrases, title, author and dates.
Step9
Click Search Blogs to begin your search.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the Blogger Blog Search URL rather than the Google option if you want to restrict your search results to more than one language but not all of them. For all languages (the default setting) or just one language, either interface is fine.
  • If you're a Blogger member you can search from your dashboard.
