1. Get your owner’s manual out. This is the first step in working with any device. This will have ideas on how to maintain your fax.
2. Clean everything. Use canned air and a lint free cloth to clean your machine. You need to periodically clean the fax machine from top to bottom. Blow all of the dust out of all of the cracks and corners. This will prolong the life of your machine.
3. Run the self-clean cartridge function from time to time. Most fax machines have this function. See your owner’s manual for exact instructions. This cleans the dried ink from the heads on the cartridge.
4. Clean the cartridges yourself. You can clean the outside of the cartridges. Remove the cartridge and use a lint free cloth to wipe everything off. Replace the cartridge.
5. Check the paper supply. Put fresh paper in the machine periodically. This is just so that the paper does not get wrinkled and jam in the machine.
6. Turn the machine off from time to time. It might be a good idea for you to unplug the machine and shut it off for a while.
