Replacing the ink in an inkjet fax machine is similar to replacing the ink in a common household inkjet printer. Follow these simple steps to replace an ink cartridge in an inkjet fax machine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Inkjet fax machine
  • Owner's manual
  1. Step 1

Check your inkjet fax machine's owner’s manual to ensure that you purchase the correct ink for your fax machine. When the owner’s manual is not accessible, you can check the ink cartridge that is already inside of the inkjet fax machine.

  2. Step 2

Turn the power off on the inkjet fax machine. All pending fax jobs will be saved in the fax machine’s memory.

  3. Step 3

Locate the inkjet fax machine’s front or top access door (this depends on your particular inkjet fax machine model). Open the door and locate the ink cartridge.

  4. Step 4

Remove the ink cartridge by gently pulling it out. Set the ink cartridge aside.

  5. Step 5

Take the new ink cartridge out of the box and the overwrap. Reserve the packaging Remove the protective seals over the connectors.

  6. Step 6

Insert the new ink cartridge into the inkjet fax machine. Close the inkjet fax machine’s access door.

  7. Step 7

Turn the power to the inkjet fax machine back on.

  8. Step 8

Put the old cartridge into the overwrap and box from the new cartridge and dispose of it properly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your office supply store if generic or refilled cartridges are available. These will save you money.
  • Ask if recycling is available. Some stores will refill the cartridge for a fraction of the cost of a new one or give you a discount on a new cartridge if you bring the old one in for them to recycle.
  • Do not touch the copper connectors on the ink cartridge. Touching these can damage the ink cartridge.
  • Even though all inkjet cartridges look similar, make sure that you have purchased the correct one for your inkjet fax machine. Inserting the wrong one could damage the fax machine.
