Have Fun at a Party

It may sound simple but the best way to have fun at a party is to be in the mood. What does that mean? Bringing out your best self can make you an instant people magnet. We all recognize the shiny people and want to be around them. Being the life (or part of the life) of the party is what makes a great time and gets you invited back. Once you know how to make yourself sparkle, it becomes second nature. You can attend a party at a moment's notice and always blaze a trail to happy times.

Things You'll Need:

  • A sense of humor
  • An open mind
  • Patience
  • A conversation piece
  • Jokes...good clean ones
  • A bit of recent news
  1. Step 1

Be enthusiastic. Don’t fake it. Genuine excitement is contagious. Think of every party as an opportunity for adventure. Before entering the party, tell yourself that something fantastic is going to happen. You may meet someone fascinating or others might be enthralled with your story about the project you are working on.

  2. Step 2

Make everyone around you feel special. Listen and be intrigued by what other people have to say. Give them eye contact. Don’t interrupt them and don’t trump their stories by saying, for example, that you met the president at a fundraiser when they just told about their friend who is a state congressperson.

  3. Step 3

Wear something unique. It gives other guests a reason to come chat with you. A slogan T-shirt, a button or even an heirloom broach, signet ring or flower in your hair will become conversation pieces.

  4. Step 4

Check the news. If you are not one to keep up on the news, check it before you head to the party. It’s the sure thing that people will be chatting about. If you just don’t want to go there (it can be a downer) then keep it light by checking entertainment news. It never hurts to know the "Top 10 List" from the previous night’s David Letterman show.

  5. Step 5

Bring some magic, literally. Stuff a small magic trick in your wallet or purse and pull it out when the conversation lags or use it as a mingling technique to join other circles of conversation.
