This describes step-by-step how to convert video and audio from a DVD to play on your Apple iPod.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • DeskShare's Digital Media Converter
  • PC running Windows 98SE or later
  • iPod
  1. Step 1

DVD video is stored in files that have names like VTS_##_##.VOB (where ## is a number). Copy the VOB files off your DVD and into a folder on your hard disk drive.

  2. Step 2

Start Digital Media Converter. Click File, then Add Files. Navigate to the folder that holds all the VOB files you just copied, select the folder (or all the files), and click Open.

  3. Step 3

On the Digital Media Converter toolbar, click the drop-down next to the Convert button, and select MPEG-4 (iPod).

  4. Step 4

Click the Convert button. All the VOB files will be converted into MPEG4 files for iPod.

  5. Step 5

If you have iTunes 6 or higher on your computer, Digital Media Converter will automatically let you add all your converted files to a new iTunes playlist, or to an existing playlist.

Tips & Warnings
  • Skipping step 1 lets you convert almost any kind of digital video to play on your iPod.
  • You will not be able to convert copy-protected DVDs using this method.
